Sessions

A positive therapeutic partnership that starts with you

The client-therapist relationship is an important part of the therapy process. The first meeting can be useful in helping you decide whether the therapist you meet may be the right one for you.

In your first session we may explore the reason for you seeking therapy, as well as discussing your emotions, thought patterns, relationships, life events and any other challenges you may be experiencing. We will work with you to explore your issues at a pace and depth that is helpful and comfortable for you. Sessions are usually between 50 and 90 minutes, although timings and frequency can be discussed with your therapist.

It may be reasonable to ask for an approximate number of sessions that you may need. This can only be an estimate. It may be that we agree together on a short number of sessions, with the aim to review. This may be because some issues can be successfully resolved within a few sessions. In other cases, talking about the particular problem may bring up deeper, unresolved issues that may need further exploration and a longer term therapeutic process.

We treat and respect every client as an individual. Even if an issue may appear familiar or common, it will still be unique to you.

Below are just some of the areas that we are experienced in supporting clients with:

● Self-esteem, confidence and assertiveness ● Depression ● Anxiety ● Family and relationship issues ● Work-related difficulties ● Grief and loss ● Abuse and trauma (PTSD) ● Goal setting ● Identity issues e.g. culture, ethnicity, sexuality ● Conflict, anger and conflict resolution ● Difficulties from childhood e.g. adversity, abandonment ● Dealing with change ● Stress ● Panic attacks ● Burnout and collapse of a professional function ● Life transitions ● Chronic illness ● Eating difficulties

When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.
